It had been a few days since her arrival in Luluhawa Island, and ever since that one time the mysterious voice had been silent. No enigmatic hints about her past, no directions, no witty comments... It honestly unnerved the girl a little as she was seated on the railing overlooking the nearby docks.

"Whats the matter lassie, looking for a passage to Fiore?"

A voice called from beneath her, causing the magus to lean forwards to look at the one addressing her: It was a middle-aged man, judging from his attire the captain of a ship. "Ah... not really, I was just pondering why there aren't any ships departing lately."

The question made the captain frown, a hand raised to his chin as he stroked his beard lightly. "Well... Several vessels were attacked by a giant sea creature. Some say it might even be a leviathan. As a result, none of us want to take the risk of getting sunk while that fiend is prowling the bay."

Yu nodded her head lightly, her gaze shifting back toward the distant sea. "That is unfortunate..." Then again, it wasn't like she was in a hurry to depart either. She was quite comfortable on this island.

The girl reached for her pouch, opened it and as she gazed inside found that her purse was unfortunately quite empty. How problematic... Although she could camp outside if needed, it wouldn't be easy to get a meal without having the money to pay for it! Then again... "Say Mister..." Hearing her call out to him the man turned around as he was about to walk away. "Is there a bounty on this 'leviathan's head?"

The captain nodded his head firmly. "Yes, enough to handsomely pay an entire crew, but that creature is quite dangerous! You should reconsider if you plan to take it on yourself." But the warning fell on deaf ears. Yu already hopped off the railing and darted inland. For now she would need to search for some adventurers who would be willing to work with her on taking down that leviathan! But where would she even start?

Wandering around the town Yu had little luck in finding anyone willing to join her. Not only were there several crews already forming to take down the beast, but when she asked about the opportunity to join them they mistook her for a mere child! Sighing in annoyance after yet another rejection the girl sat down on the staircase leading further up toward what appeared to be a church while she gazed up at the plaza. "I'm not a child..." Mumbling in annoyance the girl suddenly hear a masculine voice call out behind her. "You certainly look like one."

The cheerfulness in the voice made her turn around as she gazed in confusion at the trio behind her. To the left was a short and bulky male, clad in armor and wearing what appeared to be chainmail. The sharpened broadaxe on his back that he carried with remarkable ease and the long beard that obstructed most of his facial features made it clear he was a dwarf.

To the right was a mage? No, the man might had been wearing a robe, but it looked more religious in nature than she was used to seeing. Maybe a priest? And the one who addressed her, a young man in a stylish armor, a sword sheathed on his belt and a shield hanging over his arm... Almost like a fairy tale's hero.

The priest smiled apologetically at her, correcting his friend: "You shouldn't judge a book by its cover, if you took a moment to gauche her mana and took a closer look at her ears you would notice she is an elf. They age much slower than us Arthur."

The man called Arthur laughed heartily at these words. "My mistake, are you a mage by any chance?"

The question caused the girl to blink in bewilderment, what a peculiar trio...

"Of some sort..." Yu replied, to which Arthur seemed all the more enthusiastic. "Illumin be praised! We been searching for a mage for days! You heard about the sea beast terrorizing the bay, right?" Yu nodded her head lightly, not entirely used to the cheerful demeanor and enthusiastic excitement that came from the man she was talking to. It almost seemed like she was talking to a teenager instead of a adult.

"The vile fiend seems to possess magical properties, and the fishermen we hired to help us take to the fiend's territory warned us that without a mage to counter his long range attacks we'd have no chance of getting near them."

Was this the opportunity she was waiting for? Gazing down at her hands, the girl recalled the earlier sensation in the forest. While she could use magic, it seemed her abilities were limited to the act of disrupting the flow of mana, if it came to actual spell-casting she was well and truly useless. No fancy summoning of familiars, no barriers of earth or blazing fireballs...

But if she was going to tell them that, then certainly they would take back their invitation, right? "I'm a magus!" Yu said firmly, to which the priest inquired with a smile. "Would you be willing to accompany us then? Of course we can give you a share of the spoils as a reward."

Yu hesitated for a moment, a hand trembling lightly as she wanted to answer them right away, but if she was to reveal her issue then... Before she could react she suddenly felt her hand grasped by Arthur who smiled brightly at her. "What is your name?" To which the girl replied timidly. "Yu... Yu ming."

Arthur grinned at her, clearly happy as he raised his other hand to pet her head. "A Sinese name? Not what I'd expect for an elf, but welcome to the party Yu!"

Finding her cheeks flush up lightly the girl stammered out in a shy protest. "D-don't pet my head..."

It seemed she had unexpectedly made some friends!

As the group guided her to the ship that they had recruited for the voyage the priest proceeded to explain to her the plan they had prepared. "As you likely heard the sea monster makes its territory in the bay, and since there is only open terrain, the moment it notices us it will start to rain down its magical attacks from afar. That is where you come in miss Yu. With your magic to blast away the attacks of the sea beast the sailors will fire harpoons to take us closer and prevent the fiend from escaping."

Yu nodded her head lightly, attempting to hide her nervousness. "And once we are close enough?" The dwarf huffed in amusement. "That is a worry you can leave to me lassy, I haven't met anyone who can't be cleaved by my axe!" To which Arthur replied smugly: "Just make sure not to swing yourself overboard Grumnir." The dwarf laughed in amusement as Arthur continued the explanation. "I will be using my powers to provide support and shield the party from harm."

And with that it seemed everything was set in motion and the hunt could begin! Then why was she still feeling so restless?

The ship slowly started to sail into the bay where the sea monster made its territory. It was clear that everyone was restless, some were excited, and others were nervous. She could even hear one of the sailors mutter about 'any moment now' and whispering a prayer when suddenly a loud piercing cry reverberated through the air. "It's the sea monster!" One of the sailor's called out.

Yu who had been near the middle of the deck darted forwards alongside Arthur to take a look, and indeed in the distance the duo could see a giant creature that she could only describe as a crossing of a whale and a demonic creature emerged. The creature rose, and then slammed its body onto the water.

This... was bad! Yu could see the mana gathering in the air in the distance while large pikes of frost magic started to form above the creature's body. "Incoming!" One of the sailor's cried out as the rain of pikes started to descend toward the ship.

Grumnir steadied himself, while the priest called out to her. "This is your moment to shine Miss Yu!"

No, the rain of pikes was still way too far. Of course she couldn't tell them that, instead the sailors were starting to get more restless at her lack of action. "We're done for!" One of them cried out in panic as the rain of ice started to encroach closer and closer when Yu finally acted, but not in the way they expected.

She raised a hand into the air, and then with the style and elegance of one of the most ancient Magi would have used she made a snap with her fingers. The crew looked in bewilderment as the ice suddenly disappeared as if it had been a mirage, while Arthur shouted out toward them.

"Fire the Harpoons!"

The sailors quickly regained their wits, rallying together as the harpoons were launched, each projectile tearing into the flesh of the sea monster and pulling it closer toward the ship. Meanwhile Grumnir the dwarf climbed onto the edge of the ship, gripping his axe and chanting. "LEMME AT THEM! LEMME AT THEM!"

Feeling a hand resting on her shoulder Yu looked up at the source of the gesture: The priest who smiled down kindly at her. "A Nullification Spell... and quite a powerful one at that as well. You are indeed a remarkable Magus Yu."

Yet it seemed they weren't out of the woods just yet! Despite the fact the sea monster's initial rampage was nullified by her magic and the harpoons were embedded deeply into his body to prevent him from escaping, the monster was still trashing around wildly in an attempt to regain his freedom. With each passing moment the vessel came closer to the monster, and with the enemy within reach Gumnir the dwarf started to slash with his giant axe into the flesh of the sea monster! The fiend howled in agony, a sound that invigorated Gumnir to try even harder, but for Yu it was an unsettling noise. That wasn't just a howl of pain, it was one filled with despair and anger, and for some reason she felt a surge of mana building underneath the ship...

A sudden blast rocketed the ship intensely, a shout of warning accompanying a sudden wave that crashed into the ship, but it was already too late. Her small and lithe frame was send flying, over the deck and into the sea!

The last thing she remembered was her body being submerged under the water as Arthur called out to her in worry, the sight of the giant sea monster, now having an enemy in his home ground opening its giant maws with the intention of consuming her whole, and while she awaited the horrifying moment with dread a sudden flash of light pierces the darkness of the watery abyss. Standing on top of the sea monster's body the hero stood triumphantly, a golden sword embed into the sea monster's body while the water seemed to calm in response to his actions.

Even with her attempt to reach for the surface, the events of the day had taken their toll upon her and at last Yu fainted, her vision consumed by darkness.

How long had passed? A voice called out to her in the distance as she slowly opened her eyes, the Fae looking around in bewilderment while Arthur asked if she was alright. "The sea monster... Did... we get it?"

To which Arthur looked in disbelief for only the briefest of moments, after which he started laughing heartily. "Yes Yu, we defeated the sea monster. It seems there is sushi on the menu tonight." Arthur joked, gesturing toward the side of the ship where the fishermen were cutting into the flesh of the sea fiend. It seemed they had succeeded in their mission!
