Kaiser

Kaiser had been in a lovely, deep slumber for the past two or so years. It is uncertain how long she had been out, truth be told. What’s certain though was that she had been disconnected from the outside world for such a long time that she had barely any memory of anything she left behind, even the family of Daevas she held so close to her heart, closer than anything else she had ever held near her stone cold core. At the moment though, she was having a hard time recognizing what part of the country she was standing in. Feeling like an alien in this new territory, she creeped around the center of the island like a ghost and ended up at the request board. She remembered this was a useful way to get an idea of what the place was like; by looking at the residents’ requests.

After looking through the requests, Kaiser thought she would take on one of them. Why not, right? It seemed like a good way to make a return to the living world. Kaiser remembered what taking requests were like. She had done so quite a lot of times before she went into hibernation, mostly alone but sometimes with a companion. Speaking of companions...a sudden image of a ferret flashed before her eyes and she remembered. Where was Pandu now? Or was it Bandu? Perhaps...Pambu? Unfortunately she couldn’t think of how the ferret and herself parted ways, or even if it had maybe died before she went to sleep? Kaiser didn’t miss anything from her previous waking cycle though, but her subconscious did, and her subconscious missed Daeva Eye or more specifically, her Daevas. She wouldn’t remember them or anything related to Daeva Eye though, unless she met them again.

While reading through the details of the request she had taken up, Kaiser strolled past the hub of the island and bought herself a refreshing cup of iced tea. As a vampire, the most refreshing thing for her was definitely blood, but she couldn’t be out here sucking on people's necks in broad daylight so this was the next best thing. Kaiser finished the drink in two long sips and tossed the empty cup into a nearby garbage bin, all the while taking in the details of the client. She asked around among the locals to get an idea of where some of the notable locations of the island were and finally found out where the chief’s hut was—which was where she would have to steal a relic from. As usual, she did not really care for the reasoning behind this request as long as it paid some good money.

So there were two reasons behind taking on this quest. She needed some money, and she wanted to get to know the place she was currently at. Off the top of her head, she could only remember some towns and cities and even the names of those were a blur in her mind. All she needed was some reminding or just the mention of their names to get it all back in her head. The vampire took no time to look for the chief’s hut with the helpful direction of some scared locals. Of course with the way she spoke to people, the only way she was going to get help from the locals was if there was some sort of threat involved, not that she saw it that way though. In her head, it was all in a days’ work, nothing unusual about the way she communicated with strangers.

Speaking of which...the past few days after she woke up, the gambling addict had sort of been on a spree. The first thing she did was find a plug and spent a bit of what money she had left to indulge in her hobby, one of her favorite things from the humans—their drugs. She had quite some fun right after returning to the world of the awake. And only after all that did she feel like it was time to get back to reality. She had already found out where to get the good stuff on this island. After a bit of walking and using the public transport to get around, she had reached the location mentioned on her request. It would have been a lot easier if she just set the entire hut on fire after getting the relic but the request was quite specific about being sneaky.

So basically, she was to retrieve the relic without anyone noticing and bring it to the client. Sounds a bit too easy for a request of its rank. Maybe there was a catch to it. There was no way she was going to get a hundred thousand jewels just for snatching an artifact from a pretty spacious building. Kaiser popped in the hut without much effort. It was naturally easy for her to blend into crowds or sneak into places since she was a vampire so that was no problem for her at all. Once she was inside the chief’s hut, she began to search for the item in question. The client had included a description of the item in the request sheet so it was also not a problem to find that. The artifact stood out from its surroundings and caught her eye straight away upon seeing it immediately.

“There you are,” she mumbled to herself and crept along the wall inside the dark room, reached for the item and stowed it away in a cotton bag she snatched from a different room within the hut along her way. Everything was smooth sailing for her so far and all she needed to do was creep her way back out of the hut the way she came in and bring the relic back to her client. It was too easy...but she was not complaining. She loved making easy money. But the moment she stepped into the area behind the hut, a shrieky voice made her stop in her tracks and turn to face the source of the sound in less than half a second. Naturally she was confused at how anyone could have noticed her, but it was a result of her own carelessness that she was now noticed.

A young boy, probably in his early teens, was pointing at her with his eyes almost popping out of their sockets. He was the only person around at the point until a few older men rushed into the area after hearing his cry of panic. Kaiser clicked her tongue and dropped the bag she was carrying onto the ground. This was probably the reason this request gave such a reward. She had a feeling something was going to pop out of nowhere and give her a hard time, and here it was. The only way she was going to deal with it was how she dealt with any other obstacles she came across in the past—to eliminate it. Otherwise if she could have ignored the obstacle, then she would, but she could not risk getting more attention than that of a group of poorly dressed island heroes and a child.

The other thing that she still had the hang of after hibernating for so long was her magic. It was her defense mechanism and her means of getting her way about things. It was almost like a vital part of her body; something she would not survive without. She was feeling a lot less impatient than she normally was due to having slept for over two years, probably three, so she calmly waited for the group of warriors to settle down from their panicking mode and surround her. There were only four of them—she was kind of hoping there would have been more—and the child. Then, she simply opened her palm and a wave of crash energy rippled outwards from her body. Everyone in the clearing behind the hut would have felt the impact of her magic as it pulsed through the air and fizzled out after reaching its limit.

It all seemed to happen in an instant—the warriors and kid took a direct hit from her crash and fell face first into the dirt beneath their feet. Kaiser bent her knees to pick her bag up as she watched the island boys do their little paralyzed shaking dance on the ground. They didn’t look like they were going to be in shape to fight her again anytime soon so she turned around and walked out the way she came in. Since the client left a note about where he would be waiting after the mission was complete, she headed towards said location with the help of locals once again and arrived there after about twenty minutes of walking. There, she delivered the relic, exchanged a few words with the client, took her reward and headed back to a villa she had bought out for her stay on this island.
