It had been an interesting time as of late. In fact, the previous time Nana had partaken on this quest... was with her mentor, Erebus. The legend was no longer around and as his protégé, Nana had taken up the mantle of guild master of Eternal Nightmare. Despite her own moniker, she was also now known as the Nightmare Queen. not be any of her own feats, but by riding the legacy of her two predecessors. Both Odin and Erebus.

Of course Nana had mixed feelings about it all. She didn't prefer to be a guild master with all of its responsibilities, but she couldn't simply entrust the legacy of the night to anyone else. Though she had lost Erebus, Nana had regained an old friendship of sorts. Esperia was not quite as dead as the rumors made her own to be. In fact, Nana had started a budding romance with the woman with newly found demonic powers.

"I wonder what Espy-chan is doing right now..." she said out loud, wondering to herself. The man before her just blinked a couple of times and counted several seconds. Nana sat at a table with the man, gathering all the most recent details involving the quest. She was only half listening of course- ultimately she knew it would involve her killing some large monster in the waters. Still, it couldn't hurt to know a little bit about the beast.

"Ahem... Did you uh... Did you get all of that information?" asked the man, hesitant to ask if she was even listening. She shot him an annoyed glare. he had interrupted her carnal daydream about Esperia.

Nana eyes the man dangerously for a few seconds, just enough to make him squirm uncomfortably in his seat. She had gotten almost all of the information that she needed from the man, but there were a few more things she wished to ask before being done with him. She repressed her urge to slam his head on the table and simply smiled instead. "Ah.. yes. Sorry." she would say apologetically. "Say... Do you know of any daring ship crews willing to go fight such a beast?" she would ask after the man became less flustered.

The man raised a questioning eyebrow. He knew who she was, almost everyone did. Asking someone for a ship as a guild master was a difficult request to deny. Still, he knew that if she got a ship- the crew would likely suffer. He got an idea. "There's an old pirate gang out in the shallow waters. I hear they are crazy enough to do just about anything for the right price." he would say and then quickly gulp down his coffee before excusing himself.

After the man excused himself, Nana watched him passively through a nearby window to see in which direction he was going. He had told her what she needed to know, but he had left off very specific details and Nana knew he was hiding something. There was several ways for her to go about dealing with this, but she was undecided how to do it yet.

The group he had referred her to was notorious for being pirates, even if there wasn't any hard evidence to convict them by Fiore's standards. Likely, this man had recommended her to the pirates in hopes that the two would end one another and make things better for him instead. Shrewd but short sighted. she thought to herself as a plan began to formulate in her twisted mind. "Ma'am. Will you be picking up the tab?" asked a man suddenly. her smile diminished slightly as she turned to him to give him a more endearing disarming smile.

"Oh my. You mean the gentleman left me with the tab?" she asked rhetorically, but she already knew the answer even before she had asked. The waited nodded his head gently and nervously. Nana was infamous now. Not only from her own reputation, but also as the face of Eternal Nightmare. While her guild representation chaos and a hierarchy based on strength and loyalty to the guild itself, they were not common thugs or gang members. She reached between her breasts to retrieve her little purple wallet and poured out a counted amount of jewels. "Here's the tab and something extra for you. For having enough mettle to ask me to pay my bill." she would say and pat him on the shoulder.

Visible relief washed across his face as he accepted the bill and the tip. A small blush came across his face instead. Maybe not all the members of Eternal Nightmare were violent monsters after all. Nana's next action made him second guess himself. She stood up with her hand still on his shoulder and squeezed rather forcibly. Enough to make the man's knees buckle and fall to the floor. "Forget that I met this man today. Tell no one if you want to continue your existence." she would say with that same disarming smile, her tone still quite cheerful. She had decided on how to deal with the information broker that had tried to one up her.

"I take it you will help me then?" she asked a gnarled man with leathery skin. he wore a captain's hat as well as an eye patch over his left eye. he was by definition, a pirate through and through. He held his hand out and Nana gave him a thick sack of jewels. He squeezed the bag and tossed it in the air a couple of times, catching it and listening to the jewels jingling as it did.

After several long seconds of silence, he smiled. He quickly pocketed the bag in his coat pocket and then looked to his crew. "Aye... We know the man you speak of. He's been givin' us a lot of publicity trouble as of late. been thinkin' of dealin' with him myself." He thought for a moment and then placed a hand defensively on his pocket with the jewels. "Aye... but we needed that encouragement to deal with him. Rest assured, ye'll get your deal." said the captain in finality.

With a nod of his head, half of his crew disembarked their ship and made their way into town. An hour later, they returned. With them, they carried a burlap sack, filled and completely sealed. To an unknowing onlooker, it would have appeared to simply be heavy cargo. To the knowing eye, it was the dead weight of an unconscious man being carried inside a bag. Without words, they stowed the 'cargo' onto the ship and Nana boarded the vessel. The day was around noon and the sun was high in the sky. Perfect weather for fishing. Now if only the bait would be compliant enough to get some attention from Nana's prey.

It hadn't been long since the ship had set sail and the port of Luluhawa became a speck, that the fishing bait finally woke up. "Untie me! Do you know who I am!" the man began as he fidgeted in the burlap sack, attempting to free himself from his bindings. He was bound with rope inside the bag however and no matter how desperately he struggled, he couldn't free himself. Nana sat on the deck of the ship silently and watched the man struggle. he had no idea to know she or anyone else was around. She simply enjoyed watching the man bemoan his sudden turn in luck.

Finally the man stopped struggling and began to sob uncontrollably, fearing for his life. That was when Nana's smile broke and her smooth and soft words came out. Dripping with venom. "You were right. This crew was indeed the right ones for the job. It would have been more prudent of you to feign ignorance at my request, than try to pull one over on me." she said and then laughed softly.

There was silence for several seconds. Likely to allow the man to calm himself and look for a way out of this situation. Finally, he spoke up. "I am sorry. I have learned my lesson. Please just give me a chance." he would say, begging for his life.

Begging for his life seemed to do something. Nana waited a moment and then unsealed the burlap sack that he was inside. Thrilled but timid, the man was happy to have fresh air again. Then immediately horrified once he realized that they were on a ship out at sea. "You'll get a chance to redeem yourself. If you survive, I'll even forget that you tried to double cross me. Now try hard." she would say with a wickedly playful wink.

As if on que, two burly pirates grabbed the man. He was still bound by rope and they used that to their advantage to tie him to a crane and dangle him over the ship's banister. Dangerously close to the water's surface. Several times, he broke the surface of the water and thrashed about with his legs in a vain attempt to stay afloat. That was exactly what Nana wished. He was the bait and his chance at redeeming himself was to lure the prey to Nana.

This scene happened several times and the man continued to yell and beg for his life. Nana ignored him however. Only his results made any difference to her. If he failed to draw out her prey, she would cut the rope and let him sink to the bottom of the sea floor.

That wouldn't be necassary, as her bait served its purpose well. More than well actually. Nana stood on the ship's deck and watched the man to make sure he didnt drowned before it was the proper time. A sudden thud against the ship caused it to shake however and Nana's footing became slightly tentative. She grabbed the wooden rail of the ship and looked below the waters. A massive sea serpent had caught scent of its food. The thrashing of the man's legs however, had spooked the sea serpent and caused it to violently attack the underside of the ship.

Nana knew what was coming, even before it was upon the rest of the pirate crew. Black wings erupted from her back as the ship was rocked again from below. This time with enough force to capsize the whole ship. Nana had been part of another crew that had suffered the same fate. It was almost ironic how similar it turned out. "So much for your chance." she said out loud but mostly to herself as she watched her man bait began to sink with the ship. As well as some of the crew.

The whole ordeal was over in just a couple of minutes. the surviving pirates all gathered on a large wooden piece of the ship that remained afloat. Perfect bait for Nana to get a good strike in on her target. She flapped her wings and moved closer, within range to deal a fatal blow. From her aerial position, she could see the sea serpent from below and timed her strike just as it slithered beneath the pirates and broke the surface of the water to swallow them whole.

The pirates seemed to feel the movement of water and anticipated the action before it happened however. "Help us! it's still in the water and after us!" yelled one of the crew up and directed at the flying daemon looking down on them. Their captain seemed to be of the same opinion and repeated the desperate plea.

She cared little for the pirate, if at all. They were a means to an end and would likely suffer the same fate as the last crew of sailors that had ventured out at sea on a similar quest with Nana. That time had been different however. Her mentor had been with her then. Erebus was gone now.

First of the crew to die was the very same man that had pleaded for his life. That seemed to be a reoccurring them when anyone involved themselves with Nana. The sea serpent had bumped their makeshift wooden platform and the man lost his footing. he tumbled intothe water and was gone with the currents of water beneath him. The sea serpent munched on him at its leisure since he was helplessly trapped in the waters' current.

The others were just an unlucky. Two more men foolishly jumped into the waters to save their fallen ally. They too never resurfaced. Nana watched passively as she hovered in the air with the flap of her wings. If the sea serpent had targeted her at any time, she would have evaded and countered. It was a smart creature however and seemed to sense whom was the weakest targets first. Maybe Nana was the desert then.

"I wonder how long they will last..." she thought to herself out loud. She had no intention of saving them. Rather, they were serving a good purpose. Likely better than any of them had been useful in a long time. They would feed the sea serpent and make it sluggish and lazy. Although their ordeal happened within a few moments, it felt like only a few seconds of entertainment to Nana. Finally, none of the pirates were left on their makeshift raft.

As if to signify how useless it was, the sea serpent raised its upper half of its body and toppled on top of the wooden makeshift raft and destroyed it. Wood and splinters flew verywhere under the sea serpent's weight, but those things mattered little to Nana. She had the sea serpent where she wished it to be.

With the trigger sqeeze of her fingers on her gunblades, two magic circles appeared at the tips of her guns'barrels and fired thick beams of magic at the sea creature. Nana had aimed for the sea serpents eyes and her tracking spell shots did the job. The magical attacks pierced the sea creature's eyes and blinded it.

Being blinded and wounded in such a way caused the sea creature to lose its wits. It thrashed about in the waters and roared in both rage and pain as it realized what had happened. "You've been caught in my trap. I hope the bait was enjoyable~" she would say to the sea serpent as she flapped ehr wings and drew close enough to the distracted sea creature to get in several good hits with the blades on her gunblades.

Blinded, blood and weak, the sea serpent knew that it had been outmatched. Tired from its hunt and loss of blood, the sea serpent slumped in the water and floated to the surface. Soon, the other sea creatures would smell its life blood and come rushing to devour it.

As if on que, several sharks and other aquatic lifeforms could be seen beneath the surface of the water. They tore at the weak and dying sea serpent and it provided little to no resistance. Nana watched passively from above, ensuring that the other sea creatures finished off the large sea serpent before she was confident that her job was complete.
